Good morning,

Welcome to Pambling Roads My Washington, D.C. Blog

Introduction

Our travels have brought us all around the "lower 48". We've tried to zip zag and circle through and around every state we could. Florida was where this endeavor started.

Enjoy your journal.

Thank you for taking this wonderful journey with us. It has been absolutely incredible.
Please keep in mind that some museums don’t allow photography.

Pambling Roads−My Washington, DC Journal

Washington, DC

We saw a side of DC most tourists don't and that was okay. We managed to get around to another part and found some awesome sites that weren't on the agenda. Isn't that the point of traveling to new places?

We missed our turn and ended up flubbing our way through DC and managed to circle around to find Arlington. It’s not difficult to do, especially when you’re unfamiliar with the area.

The breathtaking capital of the United States of America is everything we thought it would be and more. We met people from all over the world. A few that stood out in our endeavors: Australia, Canada, Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Washington, Wisconsin, DC, Virginia, and Tennessee.

We stayed in Arlington, Virginia. We stayed there the last time we were in the DC area, and it worked out quite well.

DC is one of the most memorable places we’ve ever been. There’s no charge for most of the sites in Washington, DC. We were there for a week and still didn’t see and do everything we’d planned.

It was thrilling to see the three helicopters heading toward the White House and watching President Obama landing and heading into the house. (Three helicopters means the President and two helicopters means the Vice President.) The last time we were there, we saw President Bush's motorcade heading into the Whitehouse driveway.

There’s an excitement people feel when watching these motorcades and helicopters. You can see it in the faces of the crowd.

We purchased tickets with the Old Town Trolley to get around the city. It’s the best way, in our opinion, to travel around DC. Their employees and drivers are awesome. It’s definitely a must-do for anyone who wants to know all the little things, and extra special history that surrounds the area.

Since we only bought the trolley tickets for two days, we took a taxi to DC the rest of the time. The people we encountered at all the sites, tourists, and employees were great. The employees were helpful, pleasant, and informative. From the monuments to the Smithsonian museums everyone was smiling and willing to answer our many questions.

This trip we went to:
The Capital Building, U.S. Botanic Gardens

Library of Congress

Grant Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

The Washington Monument

National Air and Space Museum, (Yes, I know we’re from the Space Coast but we just had to!) When I saw the Space Toilet, all I could think of was The Big Bang Theory and Howard.

We touched a piece of the moon!!

There was a section for the different military services. The WW II section stood out for me, as well as the section with the Tuskegee Airmen.

Natural History Museum

American History Museum

FDR Memorial

Martin Luther King Memorial

The Washington Monument with MLK

Vietnam Vet’s Memorial, the Korean War Memorial

The house where President Lincoln died.

The picture of the column above on the right is created from all books written about Abraham Lincoln.

We walked by the Supreme Court but it was full of scaffolding and we did not go into the building. As much as we did see, it is just a small drop of everything that visitors can do in the nation’s capital.

We decided we wanted to end our trip with a visit the Arlington National Cemetery, the memorials, and monuments.  We ended our time in DC by observing the Changing of the Guard. It was breathtaking, awe inspiring, and humbling.

We stayed a week in the nation’s capital and had dined at many different restaurants. The best one was a comfortable and relaxing dine where we also enjoyed drinks at the Monuments Restaurant and Lounge at the Comfort Inn next door to the Best Western/Pentagon in Arlington.

The food was cooked to perfection and our server, Lipi, was pleasant, friendly, and did not leave us wanting or waiting for anything. He left an excellent and lasting impression on the both of us. Lipi was just one of those awesome people and considering that I tend to warm up slowly to people, I felt a connection toward him that was rare for me.

We had the privilege of meeting his fiancé and struck up a conversation with her as well. They were looking forward to becoming US citizens within a few months. My husband and I wish them well.
